Our History

The Rochester Police Foundation was established in May, 2012 by business and civic leaders as an independent, non-profit organization to support the Rochester Police Department in public safety and law enforcement excellence.

The Police Foundation works closely with the Chief of Police to develop and implement a strategic program to raise awareness and resources that are not readily available through other means to assist RPD with:

  • Community and youth outreach programs
  • Equipment and training to support RPD operations
  • Assistance to families of fallen officers

Among the many initiatives the Police Foundation has funded to date include:

  • The purchase of personal ballistic safety shields
  • Sponsorship of gun buyback campaigns
  • Assistance with the purchase and training of new police dogs for the K-9 unit and horses for the Mounted Patrol
  • Sponsorship of numerous community outreach programs such as Adopt A Family Holiday program, Shop with a Cop, Books & Bears, and other neighborhood events that bring police and citizens together in a social environment
  • Assistance with projects and events that promote anti-violence messaging such as the production of Front Row
  • Assistance to the family of Officer Daryl Pierson and other RPD families during times of need
